Katama is a Finisterre Class with a sliding keel that cuts her draught from 2.7 to 1.3 metres. She took part in the Bermuda Race in 1961. She was purchased in the USA in 1999 and was based at Chesapeake Bay, before being cargo-shipped from Baltimore to Genoa. Katama then sailed around Corsica and Sardinia before being based at Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. She has been based at Rimini since 2005. Between cruises, she was restored at the C.N. Alto Adriatico yard in Monfalcone by her owner, yacht designer Silverio Della Rosa, who penned the Nytec 23 and the FIV 555 dinghy. In 2010, Katama won the Classic A category of the Barcolana Classic at Trieste. She is built from mahogany planking over oak frame timbers. Her deck is varnished marine ply, her main mast is aluminium while her mizzen mast is spruce
