One of the first ever Maxi Yachts, the ocean racing legend Kialoa II is now for sale. Designed in 1963 by Sparkman & Stephens for the famous yachtsman Jim Kilroy and built in lightweight aluminium in California to be launched in 1964, she was one of the most successful yachts of her time. Winning nearly every race she entered, amongst many others also the 1965 Transpac (Los Angeles to Honolulu in just over nine days) and the gruelling, upwind Sydney Hobart Race of 1971. In these glorious days ocean racers were still also comfortable, taking care of their crew in the best possible manner. Kialoa II sports a beautiful, stylish, and spacious interior and has also been used for many years as a close to perfect liveaboard yacht. Even during her hot racing career with Kilroy, she was already fitted – probably as one of the first yachts – with a microwave oven, air conditioning, two large freezers, and three heads, two with showers. Since then she has cruised all the oceans and has been pampered by several thorough refits in the course of her lifetime. She recently underwent a complete refit in the Netherlands wherein the deck and the hull have been completely repainted. When she finally went back into the water, Kialoa II was as good as, if not better than new and her appearance is as close as it can get to the original. The asking price has been newly adjusted to emphasize the owners determination to sell. Please enquire today for the complete listings at Baum & König.
