Company History

Pedrick Yacht Designs has been a prominent and progressive leader in yacht design since its founding in Newport, Rhode Island in 1977. Designs by the Pedrick team have won the America's Cup, earned awards for Superyacht of the Year, broken ocean race course records, reached unprecedented speed under power and captured the essence of classic style.

Among the firm's notable, high technology projects has been the America's Cup, in which DAVID PADRICK has been a principal designer in eight campaigns, producing two Cup winners - Courageous in 1974 (while at Sparkman & Stephens) and Stars & Stripes in 1987. In other racing areas, Pedrick Yacht Designs' swift maxi racers have set prestigious and long-standing ocean records, such as in the Bermuda and Fastnet Races.

Pedrick Yacht Designs' performance pedigree has been a hallmark of its cruising yachts, as well, with custom cruising projects ranging from 13 - 45 m (42 - 156 ft). Whether classic or contemporary, they share the high degree of beauty, comfort and performance that distinguish the firm's designs. Our 23m (75-ft) raised-salon sloop SHANAKEE II , for example, has provided many thousands of miles of Pacific cruising to her owner, along with occasional racing successes.

Our talent for combining artistry and engineering is showcased in the classic-styled, 27m (90 ft) sloop SAVANNAH, whose exquisite beauty, construction and sailing qualities earned both of the industry's "best superyacht" awards in 1998. In quite a different application, Pedrick Yacht Designs created breakthroughs in sail handling and high-performance motorsailing in the innovative 48m (156-ft) MITseaAH, launched in 2004.

Serving an international clientele from its Newport office, Pedrick Yacht Designs continues to create a wide range of new designs, and to design and engineer improvements to yachts by others.
